Was there anything in the Obama administration that was not tainted by either fraud, ineptitude, or agenda pushing? Even one of his more popular schemes that sounded like it would be helpful for many poorer Americans seems to have been basically a scam. The “Obamaphone” program that sought to provide phones and internet access to those who could not afford it (with the intention of them using these items for finding work), ahs now been investigated and the results are a very dim condemnation of the policy.
The “Lifeline Program”, as was its official name, provided over 10 and a half million free phones to Americans. But the investigation shows that at least 3.8 million of these are likely fraudulent. That’s 36% that the taxpayer is funding without good reason. And this wasn’t a one-off payment.
Each and every month, phone companies and phone service providers are getting a check from the government, but nobody is doing any oversight on it. There is no accountability and no rules in place for the phone providers to question possibly fraudulent use.
Thousands of people who are apparently dead have Obamaphones, thousands of people have at least TWO Obamaphones, and millions more are not eligible to actually have their bills paid for by YOU, the taxpayer…Yet the program and all the waste it entails continues.
As reported in Breitbart:
A three-year investigation into the controversial Lifeline Program, requested by Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO), says some 10.6 million Americans have an Obamaphone and more than 3.8 million or 36 percent of them may not be eligible.
GAO investigators sampled the program’s population and found that it had been paying for nearly 6,400 phones for people whom the government has listed as deceased; another 5,500 people were enrolled for two phones, and another group of people couldn’t prove they were eligible to receive their free phone.
“A complete lack of oversight is causing this program to fail the American taxpayer — everything that could go wrong is going wrong,” McCaskill said in a statement. “We’re currently letting phone companies cash a government check every month with little more than the honor system to hold them accountable, and that simply can’t continue.”
We hear from the government that there is not enough money for this or that; hat they are trying to manage the deficit,; that public sector cuts ned to be made…But the reality is that this is nothing but fraud and mismanagement. 10 million phones, even if the phone bill is only $10 per month, is $100 million per month, over a billion dollars a year (and that’s if it’s only $10 a month). This is money being flushed down the drain by the Federal Government. Your money.
